F BLOCK (YEAR 9) ASSEMBLY
This week’s F Block assembly focused on the importance of selecting IGCSE subjects. Dr Grindlay, Deputy Head Academic, outlined how IGCSEs build a strong foundation for future studies, offering a broad knowledge base and preparing students for more focused A Levels.
In addition to the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, students can choose four elective subjects from a diverse range, including Art, Computer Science, Geography, Languages and more. Mrs Cecil, Head of Higher Education and Careers, emphasised the importance of informed decision-making, advising students to consider future university and career aspirations.
Students and parents can explore subject options further at the Pathways Event on Friday, 10th January 2025, with initial option choices due by Monday, 3rd February 2025. More information about this event will be sent to parents in due course.

UNIFROG
As part of our commitment to exceptional career guidance and tailored support, we use the award-winning online platform, Unifrog, to help students explore and plan their future pathways. Unifrog is accessible to all students from F Block and above, and offers tools to support informed decisions about careers, universities and skills development. For F Block and D Block students, who are currently making their IGCSE and A Level option choices, Unifrog is an extremely helpful resource. Amongst other features, the subjects and careers libraries are excellent sources of information.
Parents are also invited to explore Unifrog using the code RUST2050 at www.unifrog.org/code.
We encourage you to explore the platform with your child and support them in planning their next steps. For further information, visit www.unifrog.org or contact Ms Cecil, Head of Higher Education and Careers.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS
In early November a delegation of students from our School attended a Model UN conference at Concordian International School, Bangkok. They joined around 200 other students from schools all over Thailand to debate and analyse many important global issues. After two days of gruelling diplomacy, three of our students were commended by the judges and won awards! Congratulations to Captain for being awarded 'Best Position Paper - ECOSOC', Prinn for 'Best Delegate - UNGA', and Prem who won 'Best Delegate - ECOSOC'.
Well done to all of our delegates for taking part - Ethan and Si-Eun in D block (Year 11) Captain and Prinn in LXX (Year 12) Maelys, Iysa and Charm in XX (Year 13) and our Student Secretary-General, Prem in XX (Year 13).
D BLOCK FUTURES EVENT
Parents and students gathered last week to hear talks from Mr Groves, Dr Grindlay, Mr Threlfall and Ms Cecil about the next steps of their School journey and what their Sixth Form experience might look like. After the talk, parents and students visited our Subjects Exhibition where they were able to engage with Heads of Department and current Sixth Form students to talk more about the different subject choices.
We hope that our D Block students and parents enjoyed this first step towards their Sixth Form future. This event was just the first in a series of opportunities for students to get the best advice on what A Levels are right for them, and we look forward to being a part of their decision making process.
UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH PATHWAYS LECTURE
We were delighted to host Michal Branicki, Reader in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, for the latest installment of our Pathway Lecture series. Speaking remotely from China, Michal delivered a thought-provoking session on the fascinating concept of “Exploring the Different Sizes of Infinity.” Despite some technical challenges, the lecture captured students' imaginations and sparked engaging discussions on the mysteries of mathematics. Alongside this exploration of infinity, students gained valuable insights into the University of Edinburgh and the Scottish Higher Education system.
Thank you to the University of Edinburgh for their invaluable support and for inspiring our students to think beyond boundaries.

COME AND SEE MORNING
We opened our doors this week for the first Come and See morning of the year. It is always wonderful to see the children showing off their work to their mums and dads, introducing friends and getting involved in Wake and Shake.
YEAR 2 EXPLORING
This week, Year 2 have been transformed into a team of Exploring Eagles and set off on an adventure to our eco-garden to try and find the minibeasts and microhabitats that they have been learning all about. Armed with magnifying glasses and a sense of wonder, our young learners searched high and low to see what they could find. Through hands-on exploration, the children have developed an appreciation for the natural world and the important roles these minibeasts play in our ecosystem.

SPORTS RECAP
There was an incredible turnout across Friday and Saturday to support our Basketball teams in the WEC. FOBISIA U19 Basketball was a huge success and was the biggest tournament we have ever hosted (26 competing teams). Our girls were crowned champions for the second year running - please do congratulate the students when you see them.
Within this fantastic result, three of our girls were also selected to be part of the FOBISIA Representative Squad. This confirmed the high level these girls played at throughout the tournament. Well done to Nina, Victoria and May on their selections. The boys also competed hard throughout the tournament and managed to secure a top half finish, eventually coming 7th out of 16 teams.
We wish to extend a big thank you to the whole Sports Team who have been on extra cover, extended hours and increased weekends to allow us to host these huge events.
A different type of event was on the fields on Saturday morning as we welcomed a local orphanage (The Father Ray Foundation) for a friendly fixture. Our boys played some excellent football to eventually win 7:2 but the most important aspect was the experience for all involved.
Our U15 girls footballing event saw them gain some valuable 9-a-side experience at Wellington College, Bangkok. The girls won one and lost one on the trip, making excellent progress in the development towards 11-a-side football.
In swimming news, we had two long full days on Saturday and Sunday for the BMAC Championships, where lots of our swimmers earnt medals and PBs. A big round of applause to all 28 swimmers who represented our team, and a special shoutout to those who made it to one of the many finals. Special thanks goes to the swimming department for giving up their full weekend to provide this opportunity for the students.
