SONGKRAN CELEBRATIONS 2025
Join us on Friday, 4th April, as we celebrate Songkran with a special theme: สงกรานต์เคบายา: ชุม่ ฉ่ําชนใจ มรดกไทย มรดกโลก – Splashes of Joy, Threads of Heritage. This year, we honour the Kebaya, a traditional garment that reflects the shared cultural heritage of Southeast Asia and was recently inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Students, staff and parents are encouraged to dress in Thai Southern-style attire (Kebaya and Batik - เคบายา & ปาเตะ๊) or a Songkran floral shirt to embrace the spirit of the festival. The day will be filled with traditional performances, a fashion show, almsgiving and of course, the much-anticipated water play. Let’s come together to celebrate this joyous occasion, appreciate our rich traditions and make lasting memories. We can't wait to see you there.
Please see the below posters for each School for more information.

ANNUAL RICE CHALLENGE
The time has come again for our Annual Rice Challenge! We will be collecting rice for the Hand to Hand Foundation - a local charity based in Pattaya helping underprivileged people in our community that are entrapped by poverty and abuse.
This Whole School project encourages you to take part by sponsoring a bag of rice for your child to bring to School - the rice will then be donated to Hand to Hand who will distribute it all over Thailand. The rice will be collected outside the front gate of each School and of course there will be some friendly competition to see which School can collect the most rice.
We are grateful to have a long-standing relationship with the Hand to Hand Foundation, having worked with them since 2018. We invite the children from their foundation to join us each Children’s Day and we regularly collect items for their communities. We thank our RST community for your continuous support with the Hand to Hand Foundation over the years.
More information on the rice challenge can be found in the below poster.

PADEL CLUB
We are excited to introduce the RST Padel Club and the story of the world’s fastest growing racquet sport. Every Monday afternoon, Pattaya Padel hosts our group of padel players with each session involving expert coaching and development of padel skills with time allocated for matches in pairs.
Padel is now played by more than 30-million players worldwide, and has been playfully referred to as tennis’ rebellious younger sibling and as demonstrated by our new group of Prep and Senior players, Padel is a simpler, easier-to-learn version of tennis. All our players have gone from ‘novice’ to competent and confident in only four sessions. Padel is on offer in the Block 4 Activities period, from 21st April to 27th June.

CLIMBING CLUB
Our Climbing Club has been going from strength to strength with climbers showing fantastic progress. Students who have been with the club since the beginning of the year are learning to belay each other, developing excellent confidence, trust and skills.

UK AND CANADA UNIVERSITY FAIR
Last week, senior students and parents had the opportunity to meet representatives from a diverse range of UK and Canadian universities. The event provided insights into degree, foundation and international year one programmes, as well as entry requirements and student life, helping students make informed decisions about their future. A key highlight was a seminar led by Nottingham Trent University, offering expert guidance on the new UCAS personal statement format. Students gained top tips on how to craft compelling applications under the updated system. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the institutions who participated in the event, including SI-UK for providing this valuable opportunity for our students. We appreciate the support in helping our students explore their higher education options.

BRIGHTON COLLEGE MEDICAL CONFERENCE
Last week, 13 of our aspiring medical students had the incredible opportunity to attend the Brighton College Medical Conference in Bangkok. The event provided students with valuable insights into the medical and dental application process, with hands-on learning experiences and expert guidance.
The conference opened with an inspiring keynote address by Dr Andy Schillinger, a leading rehabilitation expert and former physiotherapist for the Thai National Football Team. Students then rotated through four interactive stations designed to deepen their understanding of the medical admissions process:
- MMI (Multiple Mini Interviews): Engaging in various real-world scenarios, students explored key topics, including "Why Study Medicine/Dentistry?"
- Portfolio Review: Learning what makes a strong portfolio and personal statement, with specific insights into Thai university applications.
- Ethics Scenarios: Discussing ethical dilemmas and decision-making in the medical field.
- UK University Applications: Understanding admissions requirements, opportunities and essential components like the UCAT, research, and personal statement writing.
We extend our sincere thanks to Brighton College for hosting this fantastic event.
This is just one of the many Pathway opportunities available to our students, including internships, career talks and workshops, helping them explore their passions and prepare for their future careers.

WEBB ELLIS CRYPTO CHALLENGE
The Webb Ellis Crypto Challenge final saw our top Year 7 and Year 8 codebreakers from each House battle it out. The challenge was tough, with clues costing precious time and ultimately, no team managed to unlock all the codes to reach the coveted "case of goodies." However, the competition was fierce, with places awarded based on the number of codes cracked: Arnold secured a commendable third place, Hardy took a close second and the Webb Ellis team emerged victorious, claiming first place. A huge thank you to the Webb Ellis House Captains and helpers for their excellent organisation of the event. The excitement continues next week with the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 finals.

PATTAYA SHEEP FARM VISIT
Our Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception children were delighted by the visit of Pattaya Sheep Farm, who brought a range of farm animals to Ruby's garden for a joyful and fun-filled morning. Following on from their book-week learning, the farm visit gave our children the chance to have lots of fun feeding the rabbits and baby pigs. They even witnessed a real-life race between a tortoise and a rabbit. Thank you to Pattaya Sheep Farm for the wonderful experience.

Boarding Life
Boarding
As always, our boarders enjoyed a delightful barbecue ahead of the Exeat, a much-loved tradition that we all look forward to with tasty food and good company!

Sport and Enrichment
Sport
It was another busy weekend of sport here at RST, many thanks to those who joined us to cheer on our Lightning teams over the weekend.
BISA Swimming
This event was another showcase of our amazing swimming pools and brought together the top schools from Bangkok for the BISA Swim Meet 2025. Our RST Lightning swimmers were again in great form, finishing as the 3rd top team, which was our best ever finish overall in swimming. We also took the top position in the 11-12 years boys category by a brilliant 200 points.
Mid Season Football Invitationals (U12 and U14)
There was plenty of football on our fields too and lots of goals. Our boys had an excellent day as they went unbeaten to take the top spot in their respective tournaments. The girls were paired with the strong competition Wisdom Academy Team but came away 3rd (U12) and 2nd (U14).
Bulldogs Invitational Football (U11)
We also had our U11s over in Bangkok where both boys and girls teams took on some of the best from Bangkok and played some great football finishing middle of the pack in their tournaments.
Mid Season Softball (U18)
Our newest sport continues to grow and a very talented group headed to Bangkok for their first U18 tournament. The boys acquitted themselves well, especially as they were against more experienced teams, winning one and losing two. There was so much learnt and we can already see huge potential for the future.
Mid Season Badminton (U11 and U18)
Our badminton team also made their season debut, with Coach Joe leading the U18s. They played some great matches as we progress towards this being a more regular sport at RST. Our U11s, many of whom were representing the School for the very first time, played incredibly well and learnt a lot against some very strong competition.
U18 Helios 10s Rugby
Our Senior boys were back in action, this time against some of the top clubs from across the country, including a fantastic game against the National Champion School. The boys found the level tough but also had the opportunity to see what they need to aim for.
With more than 150 students in action over the weekend, we are so proud of what they achieved (with a few missing for Scholarship assessments too). There was plenty of opportunity to play and we would like to extend a big thank you to all the staff who are making this possible.
