AIS E-WASTE DRIVE
The Prep Eco Team would like to announce in collaboration with the Pre-Prep and Senior School, the start of our brand new e-waste collection drive. In partnership with AIS, we will be providing collection points for the community to help everyone manage their electronic waste in a responsible way. The drive has been organised to safely collect and recycle electronic waste which helps to prevent materials like lead and mercury building up in landfills.

From Wednesday, 7th May until the end of Term 3, we will have e-waste collection points at the following locations:
Prep School entrance
Senior reception
Pre-Prep entrance

Items that can be left at our collection points include: power banks, mobile phones, tablets, batteries, charging cables and earphones.

Please note that any personal data should be removed from devices before leaving it at our collection points.

PARENT ID BADGES
To enhance campus safety, all adults on campus are required to wear an ID badge with a designated coloured lanyard. Parents can obtain a lanyard at the main Reception area. If you have a red visitor's lanyard, please return it to Reception or security personnel as soon as possible and do not take it home with you. If your lanyard cannot access the security gate, please visit Reception to have your lanyard updated.

This measure helps our staff quickly identify authorised individuals on campus and ensure the safety of all our students. Highlights

UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE
We had the pleasure of welcoming back Dr Kamran Yunis, a Fellow in Chemical Engineering at Downing College, University of Cambridge. In addition to his academic role, Dr Yunis serves as Associate Teaching Professor, Undergraduate Tutor, Admissions Tutor and Director of Studies - bringing a wealth of experience and insight to our students.

In a thought-provoking talk, Dr Yunis unpacked the unique collegiate system and tutorial-based teaching style that sets Cambridge apart. At the heart of his message was the idea of "best fit", encouraging students to seek environments where they will be academically and personally fulfilled - a principle closely aligned with our School's own ethos.

He stressed that while certain careers like medicine, engineering or law require specific degrees, students should feel empowered to choose subjects that truly excite them. Regardless of discipline, all degrees foster key transferrable skills - especially critical thinking, analytical reasoning and the ability to construct and challenge ideas - skills that are highly sought after in today’s evolving job market.

Dr Yunis also offered practical advice on how to approach the Cambridge application process, including tips on writing compelling personal statements. Students even got a chance to explore sample interview questions, designed not just to test knowledge but to assess how applicants think.

A central theme of the session was the importance of supracurricular engagement - going beyond the syllabus to deepen subject knowledge and develop critical thinking. Dr Yunis made it clear this isn’t about ticking boxes but about asking questions and developing intellectual curiosity. He recommended resources such as myheplus.com, TED Talks, MOOCs, museums and journals.

The talk also highlighted the Downing College Summer Programme - a valuable opportunity for students to immerse themselves in university-level learning. Our Deputy Head Girl, Phoenix, took part last summer. The experience opened her eyes to new ways of thinking and helped confirm her passion for Natural Sciences - a course she will now pursue at Downing College. We’re incredibly proud of her achievement and growth.

Thank you, Dr Yunis, for your ongoing support of our students and for reminding us that education is not just about answers - it’s about asking better questions.

SECURITY UPDATE
The School has welcomed a new security team (PCS) this week who will be focusing on security on the site, parking and access. With this in mind, we wish to remind those families using the back entrance near Pre-Prep to ensure they always have a parent ID badge. Families will also need to ensure that their vehicle is registered in our system and an RST sticker is displayed on the vehicle in order to gain access to the School grounds.

These are not new requirements, but standard procedures that will be followed up by the security team. If you have not registered your car please do so by visiting admin or the Pre-Prep office for guidance.  Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Pre-Prep safe.

YOUNG INTERPRETER SCHEME
Our Young Interpreter Scheme is an initiative that we are very proud of. Recently, one of our Year 2 Young Interpreters, Himari, received a special recognition sticker from Miss Sarah to reward the amazing work that she has done in using her Young Interpreter skills to comfort a Japanese speaking child. Himari also helped another new Japanese speaking child find their classroom by using her translation skills. We are all incredibly proud of how Himari has used the Young Interpreter Scheme (YIS) core skills of empathy, compassion and active listening to be a supportive friend to new arrivals and those new to English at RST.

RUBY THE TORTOISE
On Wednesday, 30th April, our resident tortoise Ruby, laid over 90 eggs which have now been taken to be looked after. Luckily, the children were able to see Ruby's eggs before they were taken away and we are hopeful that some of her eggs will hatch in around 3 months time.

ART WEEK
Last week was a vibrant celebration of creativity in Pre-Prep as we immersed ourselves in Art week. The culmination of the week saw the Oval transformed into a breathtaking open-air gallery, showcasing a stunning collection of artwork all centred around our "Wonderful World" theme. Each class embarked on an artistic journey to different corners of the globe with their explorations coming to life through a delightful array of materials and techniques. A particular highlight that brought smiles to many faces were the ingenious Selfie Art Walls crafted by each year group which provided the perfect backdrop for parents to capture a special moment with their budding artists.

SPORTS UPDATE

RST Lightning Swim Meet
Last weekend, we proudly hosted the second edition of the RST Lightning Swim Meet, an event that marked a significant milestone in our School's history. The meet welcomed an impressive number of participants, with over 400 swimmers taking part – a huge increase of 100 participants from the previous year. The atmosphere was vibrant, with swimmers demonstrating exceptional performances and a strong sense of team spirit.

The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly our swimmers' achievement of securing first place overall which demonstrates their remarkable improvement from a fourth-place finish last year. We are incredibly proud of the  dedication and efforts of all our swimmers. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this victory possible.

BISA Football Tournament
RST was delighted to welcome seven schools to campus for the BISA End of Season Football Tournament, featuring competitions for Under 13 and Under 15 boys and girls. Despite the extremely hot conditions, all teams showed tremendous spirit and resilience, delivering exciting matches throughout the day. Our Under 13 boys shone brightly, playing with exceptional skill and teamwork to be crowned tournament champions on penalties. Meanwhile, the Under 15 girls demonstrated great determination and talent, earning a well-deserved 3rd place finish. Across all age groups, it was fantastic to see such high levels of participation, sportsmanship and passion for the game.

Under-11 Badminton at BISA End of Season Festival
Our Under-11 badminton team traveled to the BISA End of Season Festival at King's College, Bangkok, where nine of our students competed in numerous matches. The players gained valuable match-play experience, showing great improvement and commitment throughout the morning's carousel of singles and doubles matches.

Congratulations to all our athletes who participated and excelled in these events and thank you to all the coaches who led teams.

BOARDING OPTIONS IN TERM 3
With exams approaching for many of our students this term, we wanted to remind our families just how useful it could be to make the most of the structure, routine and contact with teachers that is on offer through our award winning boarding programme.

There is no better time to be a boarder than in Term 3 when there are public examinations, as this is a time when students require help from staff and can benefit from the good order provided by being around other students who are striving for the same goals. Students work hard within the framework boarding provides and have access to everything they need, including the ability to see teachers ‘out of hours’ and to benefit from extra help; all of this without the stress of the daily commute and with device usage and bedtimes sensibly regulated.

If you are interested in boarding for your child for Term 3, or even just for the period of time around your child’s examinations, please do reach out to Mr Ennis-Billing dennisbilling@rugbyschool.ac.th and we can discuss flexible boarding options to suit your individual family’s needs.
