RSTPA COOKERY CLASS
Our most recent RSPTA cookery class brought parents together to learn the art of Yakut cuisine from Russia. More of a cultural journey than just a cooking lesson, there was a fascinating story behind the rich, authentic flavours of each dish. It was a real taste of tradition and community - thank you to the Yakut team for sharing their recipes, culture and generosity with us.

ASK BETTER QUESTIONS
Last week marked the launch of the Ask Better Questions seminar programme for our LXX (Year 12) students, led by Dr Field and Mr Threlfall. Now in its third year, this distinctive RST initiative develops supra-curricular knowledge, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity - skills that prepare students for university and beyond.
The opening seminar introduced the idea of “wicked problems,” encouraging students to engage in Harkness-style discussions that place enquiry and dialogue in their hands. With Simon Sinek’s Start With Why as a core text, the programme continues to be a defining feature of Sixth Form life, inspiring students to think deeply and collaboratively about complex issues.

RST CRAFTS
RST Crafts is a growing club of Senior School students who share a wholehearted commitment to service work. They also share creative talents, such as baking, jewellery design, small craftmaking, exam study guides - the list goes on.
We've been proud to see RST Crafts events being so well supported by our student body; the first of this academic year generated 12,353 THB. Since its inception, RST Crafts has raised over 46k THB, with all proceeds going towards Operation Smile and their NGO partners in remote regions across Thailand.
RST Crafts is open to all Senior School students who want to make a difference where it matters.

MATHEMATICS COMPETITIONS
This year, there are some exciting mathematical enrichment opportunities available. We are always keen to extend students beyond the classroom, ensuring they have access to competitions to improve their problem-solving skills and enrich their academic records.
We will be primarily using the Canadian Mathematics Competitions. These come highly recommended and offer an interesting challenge for a wide range of students. We will coordinate entries for the Gauss, Pascal, Cayley, Fermat and Euclid competitions.
All mathematics students will be able to compete in the FOBISIA code-breaking competition, which starts next week. Details will be posted on Google Classrooms for the students.
Our best mathematicians in F, E and D Block (Years 9-11) will be invited to take part in the World Mathematics Champion (Junior). This event will be held in Bangkok in October. The parents of eligible students will be contacted.
Our LXX Further Mathematicians are entering the MEI Ritangle competition. This is a fantastic team-based challenge that encourages deep mathematical thinking.
For students who are interested in the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) competitions, it is possible to register and pay via the Aseeder website. Please note that this company has had technical problems, which we are unable to assist with. Please let us know if your child is registered, as we can arrange a time and space for them to sit these competitions at School. The key events are:
- 10th October 2025 - UK Senior Mathematics Challenge (aimed at LXX and XX)
- 29th January 2026 - UK Intermediate Mathematics Challenge (aimed at F, E and D Block)
We are also looking into other possible competitions and events. Let us know if your child enters any other mathematics competitions, as we love to hear about their successes.

OUTSTANDING YOUTH AWARD
We're very proud of the students in our Sixth Form who received the Outstanding Youth Award at an event held at Sriracha School on National Youth Day 2025. This recognition is for their leadership in the We Care We Build #2 project, which raised 26,100 THB earlier this year to help repair homes for underprivileged children in Chonburi.
This important project is ongoing and we encourage any students who are interested to get involved; the work makes a tangible difference in the local community.

UK vs US UNIVERSITIES TALK
Last week, Judson Simmons, Head of Higher Education & Careers, gave an introductory talk about the similarities and differences in applying to UK and US universities. For those who couldn’t make it, the presentation slides have been shared with relevant parents.
If you haven't received the presentation, but would like to, please contact jsimmons@rugbyschool.ac.th
UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS LONDON
On Monday afternoon, the University of the Arts London (UAL) visited us to give an insightful session about the university and how to develop a great application portfolio.
Ah Ra from Year 13 commented on the session: “I got deeper insights into the application process, as well as learning what should be in a portfolio, specifically for Graphic Design, which I am applying for. This useful advice will definitely help me make adjustments to my current portfolio, to ensure it is a perfect fit for UAL.”

IYARA'S INTERNSHIP AT FORD
Over the summer break, Iyara interned at the Ford Motor Company plant in Thailand, working in the Finance Department as the only school student among university interns. She gained excellent hands-on experience through daily finance meetings, safety briefings, GEMBA walks to improve efficiency and by creating dashboards to support reporting.
Her role also gave her insight into other areas of the company, such as manufacturing processes and exploring cost-effective methods across departments. The experience not only deepened her understanding of finance and data science but also confirmed her interest in pursuing these fields at university.
Grateful for the guidance of her welcoming team, Iyara developed practical skills in public speaking, data management, collaboration and leadership - skills that will serve her well in life.

YEAR 4 AT THE OEC
On Tuesday morning, our Year 4 students enjoyed an adventure down to the Outdoor Education Centre (OEC). The session was filled with challenges that honed teamwork and resilience.
Students made their way through a carousel of fun tasks. One was to take on the high ropes, channelling perseverance as they navigated their way along the course. Another was collaborating to escape from the "Lava Floor" without touching the ground. Meanwhile, a problem-solving challenge saw the children engineering a bridge structure to help them cross the area safely.
It was a rewarding morning, and the Year 4 team felt very proud of all the children for their efforts and enthusiasm.

Reminders
HEALTH
We carefully track cases of illnesses such as flu and RSV to help us monitor the situation across the School. While these do not require class closures under Health Department guidelines, we do follow strict protocols, including deep cleaning, extra handwashing and close monitoring of unwell children.
We kindly ask that unwell children stay at home until they are fully recovered. The only illness that may require a class to close is Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, which we are required to report to the Health Department. In the meantime, we continue to disinfect touchpoints and bathrooms daily, alongside regular deep cleaning of classrooms, soft toys and furnishings.

ACTIVITIES
Pre-Prep activities are in full swing, so our KS1 children have been getting busy trying out new hobbies and learning new skills. We have loved seeing so many students experience the joys of our new Forest School area, as well as watching them immerse themselves in activities such as Bike and Water Fun, Creative Painting and 3D Printing. We certainly have a lot of Creative Chameleons in the Pre-Prep.
It has also been fantastic to see our Reception children settling into their first Monday activity sessions, developing their independence and coping well with our extended school day. We look forward to seeing many more smiling faces as we continue our amazing activity programme.

YEAR 1 BIKES TO SCHOOL
Year 1 had a wonderful time this week riding their bicycles and scooters on the KS1 bike track. Each session was full of energy and smiles as the children built confidence and enjoyed being active outdoors with their friends.

SUNDAY FUNDAY
Last weekend, some of our full boarders enjoyed a Sunday Funday trip to Aquaverse. Despite some moody skies, the rain held off and everyone had a fantastic time together. We’ve got lots more exciting weekend adventures lined up this term, including a creative day of art, a high-energy trampolining session and a trip to Dreamworld.

LIFE BEYOND BOARDING
Boarding life is full of fun and opportunities - but where does that take you beyond our boarding school? Over the next few weeks, we'll shine a light on some of our recent boarding graduates, showing you where they are now and how boarding helped them reach their full potential.
Starting with Rupert Brooke's fantastic 2024-25 House Captain, Mrs Windsor tells us why she thinks boarding helped Sophia thrive:
"Over her years in Rupert Brooke, Sophia transformed from a shy new boarder into a strong, magnetic leader, admired by students of all ages. As House Captain and a member of the Levée, she was a wonderful role model, showing kindness, integrity and a readiness to support others - often stepping up without being asked. Boarding gave her the community to develop these qualities and she really made the most of it.
Boarding also gave Sophia the extra time to pursue her passions, such as drama. In the run-up to a production, she would practise lines with friends in the House; quiet dedication that grew into powerful performances on stage. We are so proud to see her take this spirit with her as she begins her Sociology and Criminology studies in the UK.”
