REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
Our Head girl and Head boy, Pun and Albert, accompanied Mr Maguire and Mr Sudding to the British Club in Bangkok on Sunday, where they attended a service led by Pastor Matthew Fitter, and laid a wreath in remembrance of those who have died in conflict.
ANTI-BULLYING WEEK
This week, we have been learning about Anti-bullying week and kicked off our learning on Monday by taking part in Odd Socks Day which helps us celebrate everybody’s differences. There were some fabulous and colourful socks throughout the School with students proudly wearing them all through the day.
In Pre-Prep, the focus for Anti-bullying week has been friendship, and every class has been taking part in activities to show what friendship means to them.
CHARITY GOLF DAY
Our Charity Golf Day at Siam Country Club last weekend was a great success, with an excellent turn-out from the RST community with their friends and family.

- Imperial College London, the University of Plymouth and the University of Melbourne delivered an informative lecture about studying in the UK and Australia
- Students from D Block, LXX and XX attended the OCSC Expo over the weekend – the largest higher education exhibition in Thailand, featuring over 250 global institutions. The boarders were inspired by the number of opportunities available to them, which has left them with lots of food for thought!

‘FUSION OF THE AGES’ ART AUCTION
You are invited to attend a live auction to bid for the art pieces that you admire the most. Not only does the auction display the talents of Senior art students, but the proceeds will support RST's microfinance fund for rural enterprises in the Isan region of Thailand. To drive sustainable growth for Thailand, we as the Rugby School community hope to play a role in promoting financial inclusivity and extending opportunities to entrepreneurs in the country's poorest regions.
The art auction will be held on Thursday, 8th December from 4-6pm finishing just in time for you to attend the evening's Winter Gala. There will be time to peruse the exhibition of art before the auction and refreshments will be provided. Please note that the event is free to enter but please do reserve seats by completing this form - ART AUCTION SEAT RESERVATION.
We look forward to welcoming you and hope to raise a large sum thanks to your generosity.

RST MAD Excursion to Hand to Hand
20 Senior students visited the premises of Hand To Hand, whose exceptional work in the poorer communities around Pattaya includes the provision of rice to 350 families on a weekly basis. Margie Grainger welcomed our students to Hand 2 Hand, and gave them a stirring on-site tour. She thanked them for the recent RST whole-School rice appeal, which amounted to a four-month supply of rice. Our students were also asked to deliver packages of rice to a nearby slum community, where they met and spoke to people with great struggles in life. Our students spoke afterwards of being saddened and humbled, but inspired to do more to support local charities such as Hand To Hand.
Whole Me: Anti-bullying Week
Our Senior students spent their Whole Me sessions this week exploring different types of bullying and the strategies needed to deal with them. With our F Block students, we used a couple of real-life case studies this week and asked students to work together to predict how the victim would feel, what advice they would give them if they could, and predict what would happen in the future.
E Block students looked at different forms of discrimination and how every person can play a role in stopping bullies in their tracks.
Finally, D block students spent their session coming up with their own unique strategies to help us combat bullying as a community in the future.
Head's Distinction
This week, a group of art students were invited to break time with Mr Groves. We celebrated their achievements and recognised the quality of their artwork which was selected for the annual School calendar. They were invited to yummy chocolate milk and snacks.
The calendar will be on sale at the Christmas fair on 26th November, and money raised will go to support two children's charities.
Learning
MANDARIN
To enhance a deep understanding of the literature piece 老舍《我的理想家庭》(My Ideal Family, Lau Shaw) and develop an article composing, students from E Block Chinese as their First Language generated ideas by presenting their ideal family with drawings.
It is great to see them communicating and collaborating in group discussions, reflecting on different individuals' views, and thinking carefully about the connection between family values and the changing socioeconomic background.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)
This half term, EAL students have been learning English through Science. They have been learning the key language involved in each stage of the Scientific method of inquiry; asking questions, making predictions and hypothesising, describing observations and reporting on data. Here you can see them conducting their own experiments to test some interesting and very colourful hypotheses on packets of Skittles!
Science
Year 7 carried out an experiment to compare the amount of energy stored in different foods by burning them. The energy released by the food heats up the water in the test tube. Unsurprisingly, crisps and cornstarch oily snacks had the highest amount of energy.
Year 3 Trip
Year 3 students went to Wisdom Valley this week, to complete one of their geography objectives. We are proud to say that they all completed their work, showed an incredible amount of enthusiasm and, most importantly, enjoyed their morning out:
Year 6 Production: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
This week, our Year 6 students have put on a wonderful performance for their audience:
Year 7 Art Trip
On Thursday, Year 7 students visited MOCA in Bangkok to see the 'Without Limits' exhibition. Banksy is a world-famous but anonymous street artist and his collection showed various funny and political artworks.
The students also enjoyed a tour of street art around the Warehouse 30 area, seeing works by Thai artists Alex Face and Bonus TMC. Now the students will write a blog on their Digital Portfolios about their favourite pieces using the photos and videos they took on the trip.
The show is open until the end of December and is highly recommended!
Lunchtime Concert
We have had more lunchtime concerts this week. It is so lovely to see so many of our student musicians and visiting music teachers performing to parents and students. They are all such an inspiration.

Miss Ta shared her knowledge with the children, and we watched a demonstration of how to cultivate rice and then got to plant some ourselves! Thank you, Miss Ta, for teaching us all about rice.
Year 1 Elephants
This week in topic, the Elephants worked on gathering and recording data. We are continuing our learning about the five senses. We went around the Oval in small groups and interviewed staff. We asked them what their favourite food was, and then we tallied our results. We then created sentences based on the information we collected.

Enrichment & Sport
We had another fun-filled morning of sport for RST last weekend: football, swimming and basketball. We played 11 football matches, 6 basketball games on campus, an U9 football festival and a swimming gala in Bangkok.
Results are available to view on our SOCS sports website: https://cc.rugbyschool.ac.th/Default.asp
PRE-PREP ART ACTIVITY
In Mr. Roger's Art & Craft activity this week we made some super-duper colourful fish!
Boarding Life
In the boarding house, School House enjoyed a wonderful prefect team volleyball evening with the help of our expert coaches Miss Olds and Mr Mills; great fun was had by all, apart from Mr Ennis-Billing who took a ball to the face from Matron Ney and had to retire. Well done to Team Charlie for winning the event and to all the boys for excellent sportsmanship and house spirit.
On Sunday afternoon, the Rupert Brooke girls baked red velvet and chocolate chip cookies, they tasted as good as they look!
Last weekend, Marshall House boarders enjoyed a trip to the bowling alley where they celebrated MinMin's birthday. It was a busy week, so Saturday afternoon was spent relaxing by the pool and in the house, before the girls rearranged their beds to bunk up together in one dorm for a weekend 'sleepovers'.
Sunday was spent doing some excellent community work, with the boarders kindly helping out at our Charity Golf Day. Good karma came straight back to Ayla, who won the most valuable prize in the raffle - a large Swarovski crystal elephant!
