RSTea THERAPY SESSION
We are pleased to inform you that the RST Senior Eco Team organised a noteworthy event this week: the RSTea Therapy session. This session aimed to provide an opportunity for both senior teachers and students to familiarise themselves with our Eco garden herbal tea and indulge in a moment of relaxation and enjoyment amidst their busy schedules.
The RSTea Therapy session allowed RST members to take a break from their regular lessons and activities, offering them a chance to unwind and appreciate the delightful aroma of our herbal tea. It was designed as a means to promote a sense of calm and tranquillity while also educating participants about the benefits and characteristics of our Eco garden herbal Tea.
We are excited to announce that, starting from the next academic year, our RSTea products will be available at the School coffee shop. By supporting us and embracing our herbal tea offerings, you not only contribute to the well-being of our community but also extend your support towards environmental sustainability, which lies at the core of our Eco Team's values.
We encourage all members of the RST community to take advantage of this opportunity to explore and enjoy our herbal tea products. Your support and engagement in this endeavour are instrumental in creating a positive impact on our environment.

A huge thank you to our Japanese parents for leading and Alena, our RSTPA rep who has made all of our cooking classes possible.
Next week, the Thai Cooking Class has been cancelled and will be rescheduled. We will continue to run classes in the next academic year. If you have any questions, please contact Alena: irbis2002@bk.ru

CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD PRACTICAL EVENT
Last week, Shrewsbury International School hosted the first Chemistry Olympiad Practical event. It was aimed at Year 10 students but contained A-level content to stretch and challenge the most able chemists.
We joined other top international schools from across Bangkok. With only a team of three, Daniel conducted his practicals solo and produced the shiniest silver Tollen’s test tube result of the day, which amazed the judges. Xander and Seitaro worked with excellent precision for making a standard solution and conducting their titration. The RST team benefitted from the lab skills they learnt in class and they had fun encountering more complex problems that will be advantageous to them for their future Chemistry studies.
Unfortunately, we didn’t win the golden Bunsen burner, but we are very proud of how the team communicated and worked safely in the lab.

We are delighted to invite parents of F Block students to watch the F Block Arts Review on Tuesday, 20th June at 4.30pm in the Black Box theatre.

It was fabulous to see so many visitors celebrating the artistic achievements of our GCSE and A Level students, yesterday evening at the Exhibition opening.
This was a wonderful opportunity for students to talk in more depth about their ideas and concept and for parents and friends to hear about the creative journey they have been on. The photos show how excited they were to show off their hard work. Well done to everyone involved, we are very proud of you and your artwork here at RST!
Our exhibition is open up until Speech Day (Saturday, 17th June) so please do pop in and take a look on Friday. The last day for viewing will be on Speech Day.
Learning
CHEMISTRY
The LXX chemistry group is deserving of much approbation right now as they recently completely constructed a Born Haber cycle, starting from a blank canvas...in 1 hour!
A truly admirable effort in the world of A-level chemistry.
FRENCH & SPANISH
To celebrate the end of their exams, the French and Spanish F Block linguists joined forces to complete an interdisciplinary treasure hunt around the School. They had to find the clue cards with key vocabulary terms, cultural traditions and local gastronomy for both Spanish and French culture. This helped them expand their cultural knowledge and see the linguistic links between the two languages.
HISTORY
This term, the F Block Historians have embarked on a journey of historical exploration by undertaking projects on topics that personally interest them. They have fully embraced the process of historical investigation seeking answers to captivating enquiry questions such as:
- How has the potato changed the world?
- How did the Renaissance influence the modern English Language?
- How has the concept of money changed over time?
- How did the Japanese Manga tradition evolve?
While the primary focus of these projects has been producing well-researched written content, some students have taken their inquiry a step further by supplementing with special designs and models. DD presented a pop-up book with Jane Seymour as the ‘winner’ of a contest to judge Henry VIII’s favourite wife. Austin brought to life the landmark moment John Snow discovered the cause of the 1854 London cholera epidemic and Yong Yong designed an amazing model of the most striking section of the infamous Thai-Burma railway line.
BUSINESS AND DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
This week, LXX Business and Design & Technology students took a trip to Triumph’s 5th factory in Amata City. During this trip, we got to learn very interesting things about Triumph’s history from when they were founded to how they have expanded over the years. We also got to learn about their three different assembly lines, how many motorcycles they can produce in a day and the key processes involved in manufacturing.
It was really impressive to hear about all of the different processes of checking torque control, engine testing and doing overall quality control on every single bike to achieve the highest quality, and it was a great opportunity to see everything we have been studying as part of our operations management module in real life!
PHYSICS
Whilst using a Van De Graaff Generator to explore electric fields at the start of Unit 3 A-Level Physics, Owen and Kei showed that if the charged Van De Graaff dome is carefully discharged through a neon gas tube using a finger, the electrons in the gas become excited which causes the gas to glow. The small electric shocks experienced were a small price to pay for the spectacle of Kei illuminating the tube.
LXX (LOWER TWENTY)
This week, the LXX students were asked to reflect on their year. Reflection is fundamental to growth and progress. The students will be using this information to inform some of the sessions in the ‘Kick Start Programme’ on the 26th and 27th June.

TRANSITION PRESENTATIONS
This term, we will hold our Transition Presentations to inform you about any changes moving from one year group to another. If you would like to hear about our new staff, about what events we will run and other crucial information about next year, please come along. Our next one will be on Wednesday, 21st June 17:00-17:30 for our Year 7 parents with students moving into Year 8 in August 2023.
WATER SURVIVAL SKILLS
Next week, 19th – 23rd June, our students will be focusing on personal survival skills in the water during their swimming lessons. Along with learning the key skills of swimming, personal survival is another essential life skill. Therefore, we need all students to bring the following items with them on their swimming day:
- Long Pants / Trousers (No jeans)
- Long Sleeve Shirts
- Socks
The students will be in the water wearing these items of clothing, so we would therefore recommend that the students bring in old clothes and a plastic bag to put them in after the lesson is finished. students should come to School in their uniform as normal and will then change into their “swim” clothes before their swim lesson starts.
Thank you for your cooperation and we are looking forward to guiding the students in survival skills in the water next week.
SPORT KIT RETURNS
As the term is coming to a close, we are trying to collect all the spare sport kits that have been borrowed by students. If you have a student-athlete in the family, please can you check if they have any tops or shorts with numbers 80-99 as these need to be returned to the sports department before the holiday?
ADVENTURE EXPLORE SURVIVE (AES)
As our final set of students prepare for their Mini Adventure next week we are reflecting on the successful achievements of all our Adventure Explore Survive (AES) students. They have demonstrated many attributes of the RST learner profile and embraced and excelled at all the new and exciting skills and challenges the activity has introduced them to.
We have been overwhelmed by the feedback from the students and are delighted to announce that for the 2023-24 academic year, we will be launching an Advanced AES Activity for Years 7 and 8. This Advanced AES Activity will include new equipment, advanced outdoor and wilderness skills, new badges and an extended all-day expedition.
AES will now run through the whole of the Prep School each week with exciting activities that will extend our existing AES students and introduce new outdoor experiences and bushcraft skills to our younger students.
AES was the vision of our much loved and sadly departed Outdoor Education Director, Nick Hitchmough and Chris Douglas. We thank Mr Douglas for carrying on and extending the programme along with Mr Kahumbu and supported by Miss Zana, Mr Ed, Mrs Howell, Mr Jo and Miss Cherry.
Here’s a quick look at some of our highlights this year:
BYOD COFFEE MORNING
Thank you to everyone who came to our BYOD coffee morning earlier this week. It was really encouraging to see such a strong turnout and to have some really meaningful discussions around bringing your own device to School, the why and the how.
More information will be following for Year 6-8 parents ready for the August launch, however if you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Digital Learning, Mr Burkhill on rburkhill@rugbyschool.ac.th.

Year 3
Year 3 have been learning about different types of angles in their maths lessons. What better way to explore acute, obtuse and right angles by drawing them onto the tables? Kinaesthetic activities like
this enables students with different learning styles to access new information in different ways.
Year 4
Year 4 have been investigating the world of symmetry and how we use it in everyday life. We went on a mission to be an architect and design a garden using symmetry. They learnt the importance of accuracy in measuring and practised using their fine motor skills to get the best designs.
Year 4 Sleepover
For their School trip this term, Year 4 had a day, and night, full of fun at their 'Year 4 Sleepover'. The day started with a sneak preview performance of Year 4's 'Alice In Wonderland' for our Year 1 children in the theatre, followed by a walk to Wisdom Valley for games and outdoor activities. Baking and a treasure hunt at School then came before a pool party, barbecue outside our amazing Marshall boarding house, evening movie and then eventually, a well-earned sleep. The students were independent and mature throughout the day and night, demonstrating resilience and versatility in abundance.
Spanish
What a great and exciting term it has been for Spanish! We are very happy to announce that we have confirmed our trip to Spain in October with students from both Prep (Year 7 and 8) and Senior. We will engage in cultural activities and stay in Madrid and Malaga, visit the Bernabeu Stadium, and culminate our journey with a memorable night at a medieval castle in Toledo. It will be a truly amazing experience.
Meanwhile, over the last few weeks, our students have had some fun preparing for their final assessments. Some speaking practice took place around the corridors. It has been wonderful to witness the development of their collaboration. Our Year 3 students enjoyed learning to tell The Hungry Caterpillar story using sign language and flash cards. After learning both unhealthy and, of course, healthy food they even participated in a ‘Sing off’ to further practise their food vocabulary.
Most recently our Year 4 learners have been learning to discuss the weather, whilst in Years 6, 7 and 8 the students have been recently preparing for their final assessments. This has involved much review and quizzing, testing their own and each others’ knowledge using a variety of methods.
Keep up the great work and enthusiasm for learning Spanish!
World Oceans Day
Last week, Mrs VK and her helpers delivered a globally-minded assembly on World Oceans Day to teach our students about interesting facts about our oceans and the animals that live in them. We also discussed how we can protect our oceans and their inhabitants through reusing and recycling plastics, which is what our Eco Team are hoping to do with your HEDP plastics. You can still drop off these plastics into the box underneath the Learner Profile display.
We also listened to Leander talk about our recent successes in the U12 FOBISIA football tournament, the U11 Games and swimming. Congratulations to Lilly and the teams involved.
Finally, we celebrated some music achievements and handed out ABRSM and Trinity certificates:
- Woody: Trinity Classical Guitar, Grade 1 with distinction;
- Jack: Trinity Rock & Pop Drum, Initial Grade with distinction;
- Amanda: Trinity Electric Guitar, Grade 1 with merit.

MAD JUNIORS' CLOSET CLEANOUT
The MAD Juniors invite you to a closet cleanout!
We are encouraging parents, teachers and our friends in Pre Prep to go through their toys, books, clothes and even stationery to see if there is anything that you are not using anymore and would be willing to donate to a good cause.
As the end of the year is approaching fast, we may have many toys and books at home that we don't use anymore but are still in great condition for someone else to use. Some of us may have grown taller and out of our clothes and shoes, but somewhere out there may be someone who can put them to excellent use.
There will be a big donation box outside of the gate, and the MAD Juniors want to encourage everyone to take part in our closet cleanout.
Donations can be made from now until the 28th June, thank you so much for your support.
We accept no money and no newly bought goods, only things donated from your home that can be used again, please.

In Toucan class this week, the children have been exploring exciting adventures with the captivating story of "Supertato"! Our classroom has transformed into a realm of imagination and heroism. They were amazed to discover that their vegetable friends were being held captive by the mischievous Evil Pea. They successfully rescued their veggie friends through play by sharing ideas, creating marvellous illustrations, and telling imaginative stories. This experience helps them develop storytelling, problem-solving, empathy, and teamwork skills. We also participate in numerous superhero-themed activities, enhancing our topic exploration.
Year 2 Chimpanzees
This week was very exciting for the Chimpanzee class. We had our transition morning to Prep and we had so much fun meeting new teachers, exploring the Year 3 classrooms, playing with our buddies on the playground, and getting comfortable with everything that Prep School has to offer.
In class, we are also busy ticking off our “Going to Prep passport book” as we learnt how to tie a tie! The children were ‘Persevering Penguins’ and next week we will master tying our shoelaces.
Well done Chimps!
Intensive English
In Mr.Roger's Intensive English class, we have been learning that all these individual and letter pairings make the same sound - e, ee, ea, ei, ie, y, ey, e_e. Mr. Roger asked us to design a hoodie "all about me." Luckily it wasn't too tricky for me!

Happy Signing!
Early Years' Pattaya Sheepfarm Visit
Last week, the Early Years children had the delightful opportunity to welcome special visitors from Pattaya Sheep Farm. The farmer brought along pigs, goats, and some sheep for the children to interact with. This hands-on experience allowed the children to engage closely with the farm animals, teaching them how to be ‘Caring koalas’. All the children had the opportunity to feed and pet the farm animals, which not only brought about lots of smiles and giggles but also helped them develop empathy and a sense of responsibility towards these living creatures.
Moving up
MOVE UP MORNING IN PRE-PREP
If you had visited the Pre-Prep on Wednesday morning this week, you would have heard the pitter-patter of little feet moving up to their new classrooms. Each year group spent 2 hours in the morning visiting the classrooms and teachers of their new year groups, mixing with new friends, and having an amazing time. There were lots of opportunities to play, explore their new environments, and ask the teachers lots of questions. Everyone had a fantastic time!
MOVE UP: YEAR 2 TO 3
On Wednesday, our Year 2 children got to spend the morning exploring the prep building in preparation for their move up to Year 3.
They got to meet their new teachers and TAs, explore their new classrooms, do some REALLY FUN activities and of course, check out their new playground......the highlight of the morning!

Boarding News
Last weekend, as a celebration of an amazing year at Marshall House, our full boarders were lucky enough to travel to Bangkok for 24 hours of exploring, shopping and activities.
We arrived in Bangkok on Friday evening, and our first stop was pizza for dinner. This was followed by a choice of movies or shopping. The next morning, after a big hotel breakfast, we all had a splashing good time cooling off in the hotel pool. Next, we all jumped on a boat to explore the Chao Praya river and to do some sightseeing. This was followed by lunch, a bit more shopping in the centre of Bangkok and then some ice skating. Then finally it was time to head back home to Marshall House.
We were all tired, but very happy after such an action-packed 24 hours.
Sport & Enrichment
Sport
BASKETBALL
Last weekend, the Webb Ellis Centre was filled with incredible basketball action as the Year 6 vs Year 7 and Year 8 vs F-block boys and girls A and B teams faced off. It was a fantastic display of talent and teamwork as over 100 RST basketball players battled it out on the court. The atmosphere was electric, and the players gave their all, determined to finish the season with friendly competition and, most importantly, loads of fun.
FOOTBALL
Our Year 2 children got the chance to play in their first-ever away fixture this week as they travelled to play the under 7s teams at REPS.
Two boys' teams and a girls' team took part in some entertaining matches that prompted good sportsmanship and fair play throughout.
SWIMMING
RST swimmers participated in the Dragon Sprinter event at Concordian International School last weekend. This event saw qualification heats on day one, with semi-finals and finals on day 2.
All of the RST swimmers made it through to the finals with all of our swimmers finishing in podium positions.

PREP COOKING CLUB TRIP
What an incredible day for RST students in our Cooking Activity with Years 3-5. We had an unforgettable field trip to the Holiday Inn Pattaya thanks to the kind and supportive staff. They warmly welcomed us to explore their kitchens, banquet halls, and restaurants which were eye-opening to see how they run their Back of House operations as well as meeting their Executive Chef!
The fun napkin folding lesson added a touch of critical thinking to the Front of House operations. The highlight of the day was making our own pizzas, generously loaded with, as Put from 3D exclaimed, "...as much cheese as we wanted!"
After a delicious meal and some drinks, we returned back to School to become chefs of our own and devise unique recipes which we voted on to discover the final recipes that we will make in Term 3. We can't wait for more culinary adventures!
PREP CROSS COUNTRY
We have been training hard for our upcoming adventure to Khao Mai Kaew next week. This week, we climbed a huge hill to find our favourite viewpoint behind School.
PREP ARCHERY
Our archery activity group have been working hard all term on their archery skills. Many of them have become very proficient and some are now skilled enough to be consistently hitting the middle of the target. As with most sports, there is no substitute for regular practice and our students have shown great dedication and perseverance to reach this skill level. We are hoping to start attending some competitions next year.
PREP JIGSAW AND PUZZLE CLUB
Experience the power of resilience through the captivating world of jigsaw puzzles in our Jigsaw & Puzzle Club!
Students in the activity are constantly enhancing their learning journey by conquering diverse challenges, ranging from 200 to 300 puzzle pieces. Meet Namo and Atom, two enthusiastic Year 6 students who fearlessly embraced the vibrant and intricate 300-piece puzzles. Although their first puzzle set took them 3 days to complete, their unwavering focus and determination enabled them to finish subsequent puzzles in just 1 day. Over the term, they triumphed over 4 sets of 300-piece puzzles, revealing their incredible strength and growth.
PREP STOP MOTION ACTIVITY
This week’s animators have been busy building their models and sets. So busy, in fact, that we’ve only got a few photos of them working hard on Monday! Next week, they will bring their ideas to life when they start filming.
