DIGITAL WELL-BEING OVER THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS
The holidays can often be one of the most difficult times to balance our children's time on devices. We've added what we think is a great article to the Digital Wellbeing page of our Digital Learning website. Although it talks of the 2022 - 23 academic year, its points are perhaps timeless looking at:
- Concerns about excessive screen time among children resurface as the School year ends
- The “power of three” to categorise technology use into social, physical/active, and creative/educational activities
- Setting time limits for each category and including “digital sabbaticals” promote a balanced approach to technology during the summer break
Finally, please keep your eye on the Digital Learning website which will be updated throughout the holidays with the latest information on Bring Your Own Device, starting in August.
Thank you so much for your support in advance, I hope you can make it some great holidays, and don't forget our holiday coding camps to make that screen time purposeful!

This is a global network of former students which promises to continue growing, especially with Rugby School Japan coming online. In the future, our graduates will be invited to alumni events in the UK, Thailand, and across the world.

F Block Arts Review
The F Block Arts Review was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase the work that they have completed this year in art, drama and music. Starting with a viewing of their vibrant art gallery which filled the Performing Arts Centre foyer, students showed their parents and teachers their work, such as ceramic sculptures and miniature portraits. They then moved to the Black Box to perform an exciting programme of music and drama pieces. The huge range of performances demonstrated the diverse curricula that students are exposed to, as we saw everything from script work to devising and Elgar to Spongebob Squarepants. We are really proud of the F Block students, all of whom performed on stage and were featured in the art gallery.

RST MAD
Three School House students paid a visit to the premises of Karunyawet Centre for Disabled Women on Wednesday afternoon. Ronnie, Tetsuo and Tin Tin presented Khun Sunan and Khun Boonsita with ฿25,000, a huge donation raised by our wonderful School House students. This donation was raised over 10 months, mainly due to Ronnie’s weekly tuckshop but also thanks to several individual contributions by the School House boys.
At Karunyawet, we discovered a thriving community of 90 disabled women, with an age range of 18 - 90. Many of the women require full-time care. Khun Boonsita explained how Karunyawet Centre depends greatly on private donors to supplement the state allocation of ฿57 per woman per day. She was left speechless when our students revealed the sum total of their contribution.
A growing trend in the Senior School sees individual Houses link with local charities. This allows each House to make deeper connections with a single charity while seeing for themselves the long-lasting and positive effects of their collective service work.
Speech Day
On Saturday, we welcomed parents and students for our annual Speech Day where we celebrate the students in XX (Year 13) who are graduating. At this event, prizes were also awarded to students to celebrate their contributions to the School. Mr Groves spoke about the importance of curiosity in education and about the importance of teaching students 'human skills' that AI cannot copy.
Our Governor, Khun Fuadi was our guest of honour and shared thoughts and reflections on the lessons he has learnt in life. Khun Taya and Khun Fuadi presented prizes to the students. We were also entertained by two fantastic pieces of music from Savannah and Peam as well as hearing the wonderful School orchestra.

Battle of the Bands
Yesterday, our School was buzzing with the electrifying energy of the "Battle of the Bands" event, held in the intimate setting of the Black Box Theatre in the Performing Arts Centre. This musical extravaganza showcased a diverse array of talent from both our prep and senior bands, creating a harmonious blend of youthful exuberance and seasoned skill.
The event, masterfully organised by the Art Levee, with Savannah and Peam from the LXX at the helm, was a resounding success. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as each band took to the stage, their performances eliciting enthusiastic applause from the well-attended audience. The camaraderie and unity displayed by our students were truly heartwarming, making the event more than just a competition, but a celebration of our School spirit.
A standing ovation goes to each band that performed, their passion and dedication to music were palpable. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the entire Music department for orchestrating such a memorable event. Their tireless efforts behind the scenes ensured a seamless and enjoyable experience for all.
"Battle of the Bands" was not just a night of music, but a testament to the unity, talent, and vibrant spirit that makes our School community truly special.

YEAR 7 TO YEAR 8 TRANSITION PRESENTATION
It was wonderful to welcome our current Year 7 parents to meet the Head and Mr Ellis (Head of Year 8) to discuss some key information for Year 8 next year. JUNIOR MATHS CHALLENGE
Earlier this week, 8 Year 7 & 8 students took part in the British International Schools Junior Maths Challenge at Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok. Many congratulations to Kun, Cha Cha, Ming Jun and Melon who brought the trophy home.
ART EXHIBITION – POP CANVAS
This huge project demonstrates some great Communicating & Collaborating from Year 6. Their challenge was to create a design that combined Pop culture and Asian traditional culture. We have characters from old legends and new movies, popular foods and traditional temples. Some groups used AI art to help with the compositions.
The finished results are powerful and fun, and will be on display for all to see at the end-of-year Art Exhibition in the Prep building, next Wednesday at 3.45 pm. See you there!

Year 3
Last week, the Senior School held their annual art exhibition which was open to the wider community of Rugby School Thailand. Year 3 jumped at the opportunity to visit the exhibition and were blown away by the talent their older peers demonstrated through their diverse and thought-provoking artwork. The 8-year-olds displayed a mature approach to critiquing the work without being prompted and showing us they are thinkers. Not missing an opportunity to broaden their experiences, Mrs V-K took the children up to Mrs Pardoe’s Art studio to show the children how those pieces came to life.
Mrs Pardoe and her students welcomed the children in and patiently answered all their questions. Thank you, Mrs Pardoe and your students for inspiring us! Chloe said, 'I'm DEFINITELY taking art in Senior School!
Year 8
The year 8 students have been working on the design and manufacture of mood lamps as their project this year in design and technology lessons. Throughout the year they have designed and developed their lamps learning a range of design skills and techniques along the way. They used Onshape 3D CAD to make digital models which were then output to the laser cutter and 3D printers. Here are some of the first lamps to be completed and they look amazing.
House Table Tennis Competition
For the last two weeks, the CGA has been the venue for two mammoth House Table Tennis competitions for the Prep students. 120 passionate and versatile students from Years 3 - 8 battled it out to earn points for their houses, compete to the best of their ability, and have lots of fun along the way.
YEARS 3, 4 & 5
After a series of closely fought preliminary rounds, our final 4 students were Cooper (Y3, Beauclerc), Ted (Y4, Web-Ellis), Mick (Y5 - Web-Ellis) and David (Y5 - Arnold), with David eventually being crowned the winner after an epic final against Mick.
YEARS 6, 7 & 8
After a similarly tough round of early fixtures, the top 4 was dominated by our eldest year group, with Tonnam (Webb-Ellis), Trevor (Hardy), Matty (Beauclerc) and Jason (Hardy), all Year 8, reaching the semi-finals. After some very competitive and high-quality exchanges in all games, Jason finally triumphed over Matty in the final.
All of our students, across all year groups, showed great resilience and sportsmanship throughout and made their houses proud.
F1 in Schools
Prep students have been designing and assembling F1 cars during the F1 in schools activity. We had a great time making and testing these, and adapting the shape to consider aerodynamics as well as team graphics and logos

STAY AND PLAY
This week, we welcomed to School some new Pre-nursery and Nursery children and families who will join us in August, for a Stay and Play session. It was good to see them exploring the classrooms and meeting some of the teachers and TAs. There was lots of singing, led by our teachers, and lots of play which had the classrooms and outdoor areas buzzing.
It is all part of our transition programme that has been running all through this half term for all our children. The aim is to make that first step into School as smooth as possible. Thank you to everyone for making it a lovely session.

DIGITAL FOOTPRINT, THE DANGERS OF TECHNOLOGY
We are excited to share with you the PDF download of our recent parent workshop on "Digital Footprint: Dangers of Technology." In this workshop, we explored the dangers of technology and the importance of digital parenting styles in today's world. The workshop shed light on the concept of a digital footprint and how it can impact our children's lives. We discussed the evolving landscape of parenting in the digital age and provided insights into three distinct digital parenting styles. Whether you are a 'limiter, enabler, or mentor', this workshop aimed to equip parents with strategies to support their children in the digital world. We will revisit this workshop next Academic year and hope you will join us then as well. We encourage you to download the PDF file and dive deeper into the content covered during the workshop. Working together we can create a safer and more balanced digital environment for our children.

Reception Giraffes
To celebrate the end of Reception and the second part of our topic 'To Infinity and Beyond' the Reception classes came together to have a Superhero day with a special Superhero Disco.
The Giraffes were all so excited to dress in their Superhero costumes. We came together to have a Superhero-themed circle time where each Superhero came to the front to tell everyone their name and their superpower. After lunch was when the real fun began. We joined together with the other Reception classes in the Assembly Hall to have a Superhero Disco. There was a photo booth to take some funny photos, a disco light and lots of fun dancing. We had a great day being Superheroes!
Year 1
The Year 1 children have been learning all about animals and how we can protect them. They have been busy selling elephant crafts at their fundraiser and creating beautiful pieces of artwork to sell at their silent auction.
We all had a memorable visit to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary Pattaya, learning lots of facts, feeding the elephants and making poop paper.
Thank you so much to all of our Year 1 families for their support. The children are very Proud Peacocks and the sanctuary is extremely grateful for your donations. We have raised a magnificent 15,649THB so far, with a few winning art pieces still to be collected!

PREP COOKING CLUB
Following last week's visit to the Holiday Inn, students became the chef this week and chose a recipe to adapt and improve. We overwhelmingly voted for Oreos and a cake, so naturally, we combined them. This week, students prepared a chocolate Oreo lava cake based on the recipe used for the house challenge. Everyone enjoyed the smell and worked well with their group to create a few creamy and decadent chocolate desserts which they topped with blueberries. Next week, we will look at one of Lily's recipes; the chocolate shortbread.
Great work, everyone!
PREP CROSS COUNTRY
Y6-8 Cross country raced up Buddha Hill in Khao Mai Kaew on Tuesday. They were surprised with ice creams and a little prize giving at the top! All the athletes did incredibly well to run all the way to the top of a tough climb. Well done to our ‘king and queen’ of the mountain, Erin and Zack and to the most improved athlete, Seb.
