OCTOBER IS DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH
Dyslexia Awareness Month, focused on raising awareness about dyslexia, a specific learning disability affecting reading, writing, and speech, aims to dispel misconceptions and provide support.
This year's theme, "Uniquely You", encourages conversations about children's unique qualities. Dyslexia, affecting nearly 20% of people, also brings strengths such as creativity and problem-solving. Early identification is crucial for building resilience, and resources like Nessy's free books and Code Read Dyslexia Network's video offer support for parents.
Learning about dyslexia fosters advocacy, reflective skills, and communication and collaboration abilities in students, aligning with our Rugby Learner Profile.
Here are some resources for parents if you’d like to learn more about dyslexia.
- Nessy has free books and a great online course for parents called “Understanding Dyslexia”
- Code Read Dyslexia Network also offers free resources for parents, including this great video “Supporting your student through their school journey”
- What is Dyslexia? Ted-Ed video by Kelli Sandman-Hurley
- Embracing Dyslexia, a moving documentary with an insider’s perspective of dyslexia.

MUSIC RECITALS
What a treat to sit and listen to a range of musical styles brought to life by the many talented young musicians at RST. Over the last week, we had two music recitals in Prep, displaying the depth and breadth of the programme. For some students, this was their first performance and the initial steps in their musical performance journey. For others, the recital was a chance to hone their already well-developed performance skills in front of an intimate audience. The audience experienced pieces including a movement of a Baroque cello suite through to the driving rhythms of the drum kit in Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life. Congratulations to all our performers and thank you to their families and instrumental teachers for supporting their musical adventures. We look forward to hearing more of our students perform at the next recital on 7th November.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Prep cross country event was a thrilling showcase of young talent, with students demonstrating their determination and endurance as they raced through the course. The event fostered a sense of sportsmanship and teamwork among participants, making it a memorable experience for all involved.
Congratulations to the following students who set course records; the overall winners will be announced during assembly. Watch this space for some wonderful action shots:

Highlights of the Week
LEARNER PROFILE DAY
Pre-Prep have been learning about one of our Learner Profile characters this week; Caring Koala. The children spent the day learning about the five ways we can be a Caring Koala - walking feet, listening ears, gentle hands, being polite and being kind. Miss Sarah even dressed up as Caring Koala and visited all the classrooms, which everybody loved. The classrooms were full of exciting activities that helped the children learn how to be an amazing Caring Koala.
YEAR 2
The Year 2 children have had an amazing week building dams, creating rainforest art, researching information with our iPads and working on addition. Excellent work Year 2!

MOUNTAIN BIKE ACTIVITY
Our group of students are enjoying the trails around the School in the most beautiful season. It is not easy to cycle uphill, but the joy of speeding downhill through challenging terrain makes it all worthwhile.
LEGO LEAGUE
During the first Lego League activity this week, the senior team started to make some headway with their robot design and programming, testing the success of their first game mission. There are many developments to be made after this week’s successes but they now have a foundation to build on. The innovation project is also starting to take shape with the team exploring ways to share and teach the game of chess. The team is looking forward to sharing more updates on their innovation project in the near future.
Boarding
Did you know... our boarders spend significantly less time needlessly on 'devices' and significantly more time offline, engaged in meaningful interactions with peers and teachers? Boarders also have set, structured and monitored home learning times each evening to support them with their work. Follow us on Instagram - boarding_rugbyschoolthailand and contact the Director of Boarding for more information - dennisbilling@rugbyschool.ac.
