Highlights of the Week
INTERNATIONAL DAY
RST celebrated International Day with great enthusiasm. Students and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds came together to showcase the richness of our global community. The School was a colourful tapestry of traditions, as students donned traditional attire and presented cultural displays, dances, and cuisines from around the world. It was a day filled with unity, learning, and appreciation for different cultures, emphasising the School's commitment to fostering cultural awareness and promoting international understanding among its students.
A huge thank you to all of the parents who contributed to the Food Market, which was a real highlight of the event!
SCHOOL TRIP TO SPAIN
Our unforgettable School trip to Spain took us on a captivating journey through Madrid, Málaga, Toledo, and Granada. Each day was filled with exciting adventures and discoveries. To make the experience even more special, we decided to honour our fellow students' photography skills by selecting the "Best Photographer of the Day."
This fun competition encouraged everyone to capture the beauty and essence of our destinations, creating lasting memories. It added an extra layer of excitement to our trip, making it a remarkable and creative learning experience.
During the last leg of the Spain trip, students had the chance to spend two nights in Toledo (central Spain) and stayed in a real castle (Castillo de San Servando). Students enjoyed the picturesque views from a sightseeing train and also spent a morning at a local Spanish school "Santiago El Mayor" where they took part in many activities with their Spanish peers. They showed great confidence by giving presentations about RST and life in Thailand in Spanish. They even taught them how to 'Wai'!
SCHOLARS' TALK
Scholars and budding adventurers were privileged to meet four remarkable rowers on Tuesday. The Four Oarsmen shared their experiences of breaking the world record for rowing across the Atlantic Ocean. The students learnt about the months of planning, training, fundraising and nutritional preparation that went into their epic race. They also learnt about the grittier, uncomfortable challenges of washing and sleeping on a rowing boat.
In all, a very inspiring talk and a great example of resilience.

THAI UNIVERSITIES WORKSHOP
On the final day of the half term, we held a Thai universities workshop for parents. Facilitated in both Thai and English by Kru Natt, Thai Principal, and Kru Stu, Thai University Counsellor, the informative presentation identified the benefits of pursuing higher education in Thailand.
There are an increasing number of international programmes available at Thai universities, including the “Big Three” universities: Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University and Mahidol University International College. Some programmes are run in partnership with international universities, such as Carnegie Mellon (US) and the University of Nottingham (UK). This gives students the unique opportunity to graduate with two degrees (from Thailand and the partner university), as well as participate in global exchange programmes. Studying in Thailand can be a high quality, cost effective, option for some students.
Applying to Thai universities can be a rather complicated process, with different universities having different requirements and deadlines. At Rugby School Thailand, students and their families receive full support from our dedicated Higher Education and Careers team, helping them to smoothly navigate the application process.
RST graduates have a wide range of higher education options, and attend global universities. We have had much success with our Thai university applications, for both Thai and international applicants.
Full details of the presentation can be found here. Please contact sdmarkes@rugbyschool.ac.th with any questions that you may have about Thai universities.

HOUSE MUSIC
To end the first half term of the year, all the Senior students took part in a rousing celebration of community and collaboration in the annual House Music competition. Congratulations go to Southfield who won the best House Song, and to Sheriff, who won the best ensemble and best overall House. There was a wonderful mix of genres in the performances, and both performers and audience alike had a fun afternoon.
GOLD DUKE OF EDINBURGH EXPEDITION
Our Sixth Form students had an exciting and educational adventure during their practice Gold Duke of Edinburgh journey in Kanchanaburi at the beginning of the half-term break. During this three-day experience, they had the opportunity to learn Stand-Up Paddleboarding and navigate the scenic River Kwai. Setting up camp each night and preparing their own meals daily, our students displayed remarkable teamwork and resilience. In total, they paddle-boarded an impressive 30 kilometres throughout the trip. It was a wonderful learning experience for our students, and we are proud of their dedication and enthusiasm.

Highlights of the Week
RECEPTION
In reception we have been reading the book 'Dear Zoo' by Rod Campbell. The children have had a great week learning about the different animals and using interesting words to describe each animal. We even went exploring to see whether we could spot any more animals in our environment and worked hard to order them from smallest to largest.
INTERNATIONAL DAY FUN IN PRE-PREP
As part of our whole School celebrations, the Pre-Prep took part in lots of different International Day activities on our last day of School before the October holidays. As has become our tradition, we started the day with our parade, allowing everyone to dazzle us with their costumes, be it traditional dress, colours of their flags, or in Miss Sarah's case, a British telephone box! This year also saw the addition of performances; many thanks to the fantastic members of the Korean, Chinese, and Thai communities who gave up their time to provide us with an insight into different aspects of their cultures.
Always up for a challenge, this year the Pre-Prep also added its own 'international food market' to the day, following the tradition already in place in Prep and Senior. With over 13 countries represented, it was incredible to see even our youngest Pre-Nursery children take part in the experience. We look forward to hosting many more in future years. Again, a huge thank you to the parents and staff members who gave up their time to provide us with such an amazing 'international food market' event; your support in ensuring that all of our Pre-Prep students could take part is greatly appreciated.

Did you know, our boarders tell us that they enjoy boarding because "it is fun and encourages us to spend more time off devices; we can do some gaming if we want to, but usually we're too busy doing things with friends".
