RST RICE CHALLENGE
It is that time of the year again - the annual RST whole School Rice Challenge!
RST is organising a rice collection drive for the Hand-to-Hand Foundation, a local charity in Pattaya that assists underprivileged individuals in our community affected by poverty and abuse. These individuals often lack adequate care, food, shelter, and face uncertainty about their future. The Hand-to-Hand Foundation distributes 1.5 tons of rice weekly to those in need.
Therefore, RST is collecting rice donations to support this charity and raise awareness. We encourage you to participate by sponsoring a bag of rice for your child to bring to School for this charitable cause. This initiative is School-wide, and there is a competition to see which School can collect the most rice.
The Rice Challenge will run from 27th February – 5th April. The rice will then be donated to the Hand-to-Hand Foundation, which will distribute it throughout Thailand. To encourage participation, each School will hold internal tournaments.
Let's see if we can collect even more rice than last year, and help those in need with food on their plate.
Thank you very much.

RSTPA COOKING CLASS: RUSSIA
The RSTPA Russian cooking class was very successful this week. Our parents prepared a famous Russian salad named “Shuba”, which translates as "Fish in a fur coat" in English. They also cooked “Golubtcy” (minced meat inside cabbage), which was so delicious! Finally, they made “mors” - a traditional Russian drink from cranberries (very high in vitamin C).
A huge thank you to our Russian parents for their effort and expertise.
If you would like to join our next cooking classes, they are as follows:
1st April – Thai
7th May – Korean
4th June – Japanese
We have a maximum of 24 places, so if you are interested, please reserve your place via QR code / irbis2002@bk.ru / Line: Helen Cool / 0907694661.
There will be a small fee of 300THB per session to cover the costs of ingredients, and you will need to bring some empty containers to take your food away.

AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY ROADSHOW
Highlights of the Week
RST FILM SOCIETY
Last Wednesday, RST screened 'The Truman Show' as part of its Film Society. It was a big hit, here are what some students had to say:
The movie was fabulous overall. An exceptional choice from the vote, and the movie proved this statement correct. Nice to kick back and relax and watch an 20th century movie every once in a while. A classical vibe in the black box and snacks from RST MAD to go along with it. Thank you Miss Bell! Waiting for the next one!
Ryan - F Block
The atmosphere in the Black Box was phenomenal along with the picture quality, the volume and the seats were comfortable. The movie choices from the 80s and 90s were amazingly decided through a vote, allowing for engagement with the audience. The Truman show, which was the movie that was screened, kept me hooked all throughout. Finally, RST MAD selling snacks treated the audience while also donating the money to foundations in need was a beautiful touch to the night. Cannot wait for the next one.

UK AND CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES FAIR
Senior students and parents gathered for the first 2024 Rugby School Thailand (RST) University Fair, connecting with prestigious UK and Canadian universities and pathway providers. The event allowed students to explore higher education opportunities beyond RST, with a focus on thorough research and global perspectives.
Representatives from esteemed institutions, including Goldsmiths, University of London and University of Guelph, shared insights into courses and university life. The fair highlighted alternative pathways, such as foundation courses, with providers like Into and Kaplan offering valuable information. Impressed by RST's campus and student body, attending universities reaffirmed their confidence in RST's academic excellence.
The next fair, featuring Australian universities, is scheduled for 18th March. For more details, contact Mrs. Cecil, Head of Higher Education and Careers at ccecil@rugbyschool.ac.th.

YEAR 3 THAI CULTURE TRIP
Year 3 students ventured out of the classroom to explore Thai culture in the "Takian Tia" community this Wednesday. Engaging in three activities, they tie-dyed fabric with coconut husks, delighting in the fancy patterns. They also made eco-friendly bags designed with natural colours from flowers and leaves, showcasing their DIY creations with pride. Lastly, they made delicious coconut jelly, and brought it home for their parents to taste.
Witnessing the children's smiles and enthusiasm during this Thai Culture Trip was truly heartwarming.
YEAR 4 DENTIST VISIT
We were lucky enough to have a Year 4 parent, Dr Warin and her wonderful assistants, come and speak to Year 4 science students about teeth. She taught them all about taking care of their teeth and even guided the children on how to make fillings on teeth models. Thank you so much to Dr Warin!

WORLD BOOK DAY CELEBRATIONS
Reading is an important part of the children's learning in the Pre-Prep and so it was with great excitement that we celebrated World Book Day on the 7th March. It was incredible to see all of the amazing costumes during our Book Day Parade - many thanks to our parents and families who helped to create them.
Throughout the day, each year group learnt about a different author, developing both their love for reading and their reading skills. During our assembly, Miss Kathy challenged us to guess which teachers were hidden behind the books; we were very good at working them out!
RECEPTION
Our journey to the Dinosaur Kingdom was an absolute delight, filled with adventure and discovery at every turn. The excitement in the air was palpable as we embarked on our quest to unearth the mysteries of prehistoric times.
The children's eyes sparkled as we entered the kingdom, eager to begin their exploration. Their faces lit up with joy as they stumbled upon lifelike replicas of fearsome T-Rexes, gentle Brachiosauruses, and cunning Velociraptors, their imaginations running wild with wonder. We then became paleontologists and embarked on a fossil hunt, armed with brushes to unearth fossils. The real highlight of the day came when we stumbled upon a hidden nest of baby dinosaurs.

U15 FOBISIA BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
It was an epic weekend of basketball as RST hosted the U15 FOBISIA Basketball Invitational Championships. Twenty teams from across Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, and Korea battled it out on the hardwood in the Webb Ellis Centre, which turned out to be a fantastic experience for all!
We are honoured to have hosted so many talented teams over the weekend and are proud of the high level of basketball and incredible sportsmanship displayed. Special shoutout to Shrewsbury's girls' team and TRAILL's boys' team for winning their respective tournaments.
We are incredibly proud of our own U15 athletes, as RST managed to be the only school to earn a trophy in both the boys' and girls' tournaments!

PREP ZUMBA ACTIVITY
Have a sneak peek at what our little Zumba stars have been up to! As a new activity this term, Zumba Dance Party offers a chance for kids to be active and jam out to their favourite music. With a perfect mix of dance and fitness, Zumba sets them off for a life-long healthy and active lifestyle by making fitness fun!
Our classes are full of laughter and great vibes. In every class, we do several different dances as follow-alongs and break down one song. Games and cultural exploration are part of our routine too.
An ever-changing song playlist is provided. Here you can find the latest hits and the newest dance trends. Think about 'Pink Venom', 'Flower', 'My Stupid Heart', as well as classics 'Waka Waka' and 'What Makes You Beautiful' etc. Our favourite ones are, of course, Zumba kids classics, one of which is 'Spread Love' as shown in the video.
Enjoy!
