The first event in this series will feature tech entrepreneur and CEO, Joe Kiernan, who successfully founded and grew his cloud-based platform Frontdesk Anywhere from a tech start-up to a million-dollar company. Joe will draw on his experience as an innovator and business leader, navigating the rapidly growing landscape of Silicon Valley, to share his insights, guidance and lessons from his own career with students and aspiring entrepreneurs. We hope this will be an engaging and interactive discussion, with plenty of student involvement and questions!
The talk will take place at the Neilson Hays Library, Bangkok, on Saturday 25th May at 2:30pm
Students can register to attend using this link https://bit.ly/Trailblazer_Talks, or simply join us on the day – seating will be on a first come, first served basis.
Creative Conversations: Trailblazer Talks
The Trailblazer Talks series at the Neilson Hays library features a number of Irish leaders blazing a trail in their respective industries. The talks are open to students and young people considering their own study and career options. Attendees will hear inspirational stories and practical advice directly from a range of industry professionals across tech, film, sustainability and international affairs.
About Joe Kiernan
Joe Kiernan, an Irish tech entrepreneur, is the founder and CEO of Frontdesk Anywhere, a leading cloud-based hotel management platform. With a degree in computer science from Trinity College Dublin, Joe started his career as a software developer in Dublin before moving to San Francisco and Silicon Valley, where he worked as a software engineer and tech consultant.
In 2009, while in San Francisco, Joe noticed a gap in the market as industries were transitioning to the cloud. He decided to revolutionise the hospitality industry by bringing it into the cloud. Over the years, Frontdesk Anywhere became a globally recognised, award-winning cloud-based property management system for hotels and management groups, serving customers in over 35 countries.
In January 2024, Frontdesk Anywhere was acquired by Mews, the leading platform for the new era of hospitality, with 5,000 customers across more than 85 countries. Mews Hospitality Cloud, like Frontdesk Anywhere, aims to streamline operations, enhance the guest experience, and increase profitability for hoteliers.
Mews was recognised as the Best Property Management System 2024 by Hotel Tech Report and listed among the Best Places to Work in Hotel Tech 2024. Joe and his team have joined Mews to further their mission of transforming the hospitality industry with cloud solutions.

Seminar - "Careers and Employability in a Post-Pandemic AI-Driven World"
The world is changing rapidly, and in an AI-driven world, many jobs of the 20th Century will not exist by 2025 and the remaining industries will see massive changes according to a Gartner Report. In addition, new positions have also arisen in the last 5-10 years that have taken over as the most lucrative jobs around the world. The post-pandemic world brings new careers, opportunities and challenges for students and graduates. Such changes have direct impacts on the future jobs of graduates, no matter which industry they want to be a part of. How do we prepare students for such a future?
Join this session to get ahead of the game; learn how students at the University of Melbourne might thrive in the future, through engaging with the opportunities offered by them.
Bio - Dr Shanton Chang (PhD)
Dr Chang is a Professor of Information Behaviour and Information Systems at the School of Computing and Information Systems, The University of Melbourne, and Associate Dean (International) at the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. He has extensive experience in understanding people's information needs and behaviours in society, business and health. Highlights of the Week
MAD JUNIORS
Last week, the MAD Juniors decided to hand out sandwiches to our amazing workers at School. We took a walk from Pre-Prep all the way to Senior and handed out sandwiches to all the cleaners, security guards, gardeners and even nurses.
We were all Caring Koala's and loved seeing the happy faces on our workers' faces.
Well done to the MAD Juniors for sharing happiness and a yummy treat!
PRE-PREP ART COMPETITION WINNERS
Miss Sarah and Miss Wendy announced this year's Pre-Prep Art competition winners last Friday. This year's theme was "Colourful Creatures" and we were amazed by the number of pieces submitted. The jury in Prep was challenged with choosing this year's winners:
Second runner up: Nile, Year 1
First runner up: Sia, Nursery
First prize winner: Kunming, Year 2
PRE-PREP COME AND SEE
Pre-Prep hosted their summer term Come and See this week, inviting all our wonderful family members to come and see our beautiful classrooms and our children's amazing learning. It was fantastic to see so many smiley faces, as the children proudly showed their work and played with their parents and favourite toys in each classroom.
Our exciting Wake and Shake sessions were a lovely way to end the morning - a big thank to Miss Jenny and Miss Lurica for leading this week's Wake and Shake sessions and to the many family members who joined in.
RECEPTION
As part of Reception’s ‘To infinity and beyond’ topic, children went on a trip to outer space in the Veraphan.
There, we experienced darkness and made some of our own constellations using light sticks, before listening to a story about Martin the Space Dog.
PHONICS FUN AND EAL - IE LEAVERS IN PRE-PREP
Over the course of the last term, our EAL children in Pre-Prep have been learning challenging new phonics sounds in fun and engaging ways. Games like 'sound pancakes' help them learn phonics with a view to developing writing skills. In other news, we would like to congratulate our Term 2 Pre-Prep EAL learners Haon, Enya and Jin who were ‘Persevering Penguins’ and have completed our EAL Pre-Prep programme. Likewise
William, May and Makkar are to be congratulated for having finished the Intensive English (IE) programme. They have all done well in developing their English language skills – by trying their best and with interventions tailored to the needs of multilingual children. It is pleasing for the IE - EAL team to see such progress, and we look forward to celebrating more IE - EAL success soon.
